I have sung at many nursing homes over the last fifteen years and in that time I have been a witness to this phenomenon. Residents, who have been unreachable, locked inside of themselves, suddenly come alive. The veil lifts and the clouds roll away from their eyes when they hear the music start. Even people who rarely speak anymore, suddenly begin to sing as they remember the lyrics to an old song from their past.

My songs are my diary, and since I cannot paint or draw, I use words and imagery to convey what I see and how I feel. I write because I am unable not to. It is my hope, that as you listen to my music, you will find our common ground, that which says we are of the same consciousness and that you have indeed seen what I have seen, and have also felt it’s power.

With Love,
Helen Lewis Moore
